Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone overcame the final hurdle before their much-anticipated UFC 246 fight as they both made weight for the bout.
‘Cowboy’ was the first man out and and hit exactly 170lbs. McGregor was out next and weighed exactly the same.
The Irishman asked UFC staff how heavy his opponent came in at before flexing his biceps and acknowledging a fan yelling his name.
‘The Notorious’ won his first title at 145 pounds before conquering the 155lb division and is now looking to do the same at 170.
McGregor believes he could have made his octagon return – after 15 months out following his comprehensive defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov – at his old lightweight limit of 155lbs.
But he said he wanted to fight at his natural weight where he and American Cerrone feel their healthiest.
McGregor has a 1-1 record at welterweight, after avenging his loss to Nate Diaz and is considering more fights in the division against the likes of Usman and Jorge Masvidal.
But he failed to maximise his size on the occasions he faced Diaz, weighing in at 168lbs.
The fact that he’s managed to get to 170lbs may surprise fans but at 5ft 9ins, McGregor looks more healthy tipping the scales.
The UFC’s ceremonial weigh-in, where the pair will face-off for the final time, follows on at 3pm Vegas time, or 11pm UK time.
There was drama in the weigh-in for the Claudia Gadelha vs. Alexa Grasso bout as the latter tipped the scales at 121.5lbs, way over the 116lb limit.
The fight has now been taken off the McGregor/Cerrone card so could change the time he and Cerrone come walk out on Sunday morning.
