Tyson Fury has brought in what appears to be the perfect sparring partner for his rematch with Deontay Wilder.
The ‘Gypsy King’ will fight Wilder for the WBC heavyweight belt in a re-run of their December 2018 classic, which controversially ended in a draw.
Ahead of the bout, Fury has revealed the bizarre lengths he is going to in order to fully prepare himself for the fight as he hopes to knock Wilder out inside just two rounds.
And it seems as though he has picked the perfect sparring partner, having already added the legendary Jacob ‘Stitch’ Duran to his team.
Jordan Thompson has almost the exact physical attributes of Wilder and has amassed a 10-0 record since his debut in 2015.
The slugger from Manchester knows as ‘Troublesome’ certainly packs a wicked punch and knocked out his first three opponents in the first round.
And ahead of Fury’s date with destiny in Sin City, Thompson believes he is doing all he can to prepare his compatriot.
“It was a pretty quick turnaround,” he told British Boxing News. “I’ve always thought that, for anyone who is fighting Wilder, I am literally a carbon copy of the man.
“I am 6ft 6/7”, 15 and a half stone when I am walking around, so I am a replica.
“I mentioned it to my management and then I got a text on the Monday before I came out asking if I wanted sparring with Fury. I thought ‘I’d love that’ and then they said it is in Vegas – even better!
“I had to sort a few things out for work and by the Saturday I was on the plane.
“It is such an unbelievable experience, I can’t stress that enough.”
The first fight saw Fury hit the canvas on two occasions, but rose like a phoenix after outboxing the unbeaten American.
And, although Thompson believes he too carries freakish power, the Mancunian is adamant he is not a ‘skinny-legged super noodle’ as the ‘Gypsy King’ described Wilder.
Tyson Fury tells Deontay Wilder: Your wife and kids know I beat you before
“Nah, not really… I like to think I am a bit sharper and a better boxer than Wilder,” he added. “In terms of physical attributes we are similar, but I’d like to think I’ve got better legs than him because his are skinny!
“I’d like to think I’ve got a right hand like him though.”
