Official statistics have confirmed Manchester United have become one of the least efficient Premier League clubs when it comes to spending since Sir Alex Ferguson left.
Since 2013, the Red Devils have a net spend of more than half a billion pounds and still managed to accrue less than two points per game on average.
In comparison, Southampton are at the other end of the spectrum thanks to their extremely low net spend.
Rivals Liverpool have spent a net of just under £200million in the same time period and gained more than two points per game to make them one of the most efficient sides in the country.
Since Ferguson retired in 2013, the club have been on something of a downward spiral as no fewer than four permanent manages have tried and failed to deliver consistent success.
The statistics (courtesy of transfermarkt.com) are likely to infuriate Red Devils supporters even further after fan protests against the Glazer family during the 2-0 defeat to Burnley on Wednesday night.
United fans are reportedly planning a mass walkout during the Premier League clash with Wolves to vent their anger at the club’s ownership.
Old Trafford could empty out on February 1 as supporters protest against United’s owners and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.
According to the Mirror, a growing number of fans plan to walk out of the stadium in the 58th minute when the Red Devils next feature at Old Trafford.
The 58th minute symbolises the remembrance of the Munich air disaster of 1958.
