Raheem Sterling was ruled out of Man City’s Premier League clash with West Ham on Sunday.
The forward limped off in the closing stages of their 2-0 defeat to Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last weekend.
Further tests have revealed he has suffered damaged to his left hamstring and will miss their next league game.
There was also no indication from Man City at the length of time Sterling was expected to be absent for or if he would be available for their next game after their winter break against Leicester.
A club statement read: “Raheem Sterling will miss the visit of West Ham after scans revealed he has suffered damage to his left hamstring.
“The forward limped out of our game at Tottenham on Sunday with six minutes remaining and was assessed on Thursday at the CFA.
“He will continue to be monitored during the winter break.
“Everyone at City wishes Raheem a full and speedy recovery.”
Sterling has 20 goals in all competitions for City this season and has been on course for his best ever goal return for the club.

The England international made a fast start to the campaign with five goals in his opening three games, including a hat-trick against West Ham on the opening day.
The goals have dried up in recent weeks for the 25-year-old but his absence will still be a huge blow for the club.
