Mauricio Pochettino has admitted he would love to return to the Premier League as he recovers after his shock sacking by Tottenham Hotspur last year.

The Argentine took Spurs to the Champions League final in June 2019, but found himself unceremoniously dumped in November as his five-year tenure came to an abrupt end.

Former Manchester United and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was brought in to replace Pochettino, but this has done little to diminish the 47-year-old’s standing in the game.

And with no shortage of potential suitors, Poch would certainly be keen on a return to the English top flight.

“To be honest, I would love to work in the Premier League,” told Sky Sports. “It’s going to be difficult, I know, and for now it’s a moment to wait and we’ll see what happens.

“It’s a moment of recovery, to think about yourself a little bit, and to be ready because in football always something can happen and you need to be ready.

“I’m ready and waiting for a new challenge. I have the belief and confidence that the next challenge will be fantastic.”

The former PSG defender made his name in LaLiga with Espanyol, before he swapped Spain for the south coast and a stint at Southampton.

His dedication to bringing through English players, stylish football and highest points tally in the Saints’ Premier League history made him a wanted man and Spurs snapped him up.

Of course, given the job he did in north London, speculation about his next move has only intensified with the likes of Atletico Madrid and even Arsenal linked.

But the Argentine is remaining coy on where exactly he will return to management.

“I was in Argentina, I was in Qatar, I was in Spain and I have Jesus [Perez, assistant manager to Pochettino at Spurs] who follows the news a little bit but I notice the rumours,” he said.

“All of the coaching staff accept that there are rumours. We deal with rumours naturally.

“The people need natural people, normal people and we don’t say that we are unique with that but we are not actors and we don’t do anything that we don’t believe.”
