Roy Keane rips into Manchester United’s David de Gea after costly error: ‘I would have LYNCHED him at hal

Roy Keane did not hold back in his criticism of Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea following his mistake against Everton.

The Spain international gifted the hosts a goal with his first involvement on three minutes, taking too long on the ball before Dominic Calvert-Lewin blocked his attempted clearance into the net.

And Keane, the former United captain working as a pundit on Sky Sports, revealed exactly how he would’ve reacted if he was in the dressing room at half-time.

“I’d kill him,” he said. “He just takes too long. What is he waiting for? If you’re going to make a decision, at least do it quickly.

“These are huge moments for United, in terms of trying to get in the top four. I think there’s almost a bit of arrogance to it – ‘look at me, give me time’. They almost think they’re outfield players.

“I would’ve lynched him at half-time. I’d have no time for that carry on. I know keepers can make mistakes, but there’s no excuse for that.”

The mistake becomes even more worrying when you consider this is not a one-off for the previously infallible glovesman.

In fact, he ranks at the top of the list for most errors leading directly to a goal since the start of the 2018/19 Premier League season.

His seven errors makes him joint-first in the ranking alongside Newcastle’s Martin Dubravka, Bernd Leno, the Arsenal keeper, and Everton’s Jordan Pickford.

Bruno Fernandes equalised for Manchester United courtesy of a mistake from Pickford at the other end, and Keane was not about to forget.

“I don’t need to see the stats, I know he’s not a good goalkeeper,” he added.
