Happy Monday to everyone except for the entire matchday squad yesterday.
This is all getting rather boring, isn’t it folks?
No plan, no fit players and just no hope. It really is the FA Cup or bust this season.
Right, to the Lane…
WOEFUL WOLVES DISPLAY
It doesn’t matter who you’re playing, but surrendering a 2-1 half-time lead at home to anyone – least not a side who played three days prior – is just not good enough.
We ended the game yesterday with seven midfielders on the pitch, that’s not the behaviour of a manager with a plan. That’s all hit and hope.
I think Jermaine Jenas summed it up best on Sunday, suggesting Mourinho needs to pick a system, stick to it and see where it gets us.
It’s getting to the stage now where I can get over a performance like that within a matter of hours. It’s becoming a far too regular occurrence to let it ruin your week.
We are crawling towards the finish line and it’s just painful to watch. Someone needs to put us out of our misery and fast.
BULLISH BEN
Possibly the only player deserving of any praise at the weekend was little Ben Davies. Better yet, he’s probably the only one warranting any form of praise for the last month and that’s really not saying much at all.
Let’s not forget, this is a player who has been sidelined since November, come straight back into the fold and played four of our biggest games of the season back-to-back.
He’s not the most glamorous, he’s certainly not the most talented, but you cannot fault his work-rate.
During a spell where 74 per cent of the goals we conceded are from individual errors and set pieces, players like him are the ones we need to count on for consistency. That you cannot fault him.
FA CUP OR BUST
Just when I think we’ve got a bit of a break from this lot, I remember I’m back at the Lane on Wednesday.
This really isn’t the easy fixture it appears on paper. There’s an estimated 9,000 Norwich fans travelling to the game and given they currently sit rock bottom of the league, they’ll give everything to have a bit of a cup run.
They’re a fascinating side, Norwich. I was saying to someone at the game on Sunday, I think they’re possibly the best ever side to sit bottom of the Premier League. They’ve got far too much about them to be going down instead of the likes of Burnley.
That being said, their win over Leicester on Friday makes survival somewhat of a possibility for the Canaries. Will they focus on the cup now that the dream is alive? We will see.
SUMMER CLEAROUT
I really can’t stop thinking about poor old Poch, someone who called all of this mess more than a year ago.
Our lack of planning at a very senior level is absolutely appalling, that of which only Daniel Levy can be held accountable. Much like a struggling Sunday League defender would say, you’ve got to talk to each other, lads.
We all saw this coming. There are far too many in this squad that feel like competition winners and if we’re not ruthless this summer, it will come back to hurt us.
There are, and I kid you not, about six players from the entire squad I would be disappointed to see leave this summer. The rest I’m afraid can get out of my club.
And I bet you can guess who I’d happily say goodbye to.
NEXT UP
A testing week ahead with two games to contend with. First up, we welcome back Norwich for our FA Cup fifth round tie on Wednesday, then travel up to Burnley on Saturday for a must win Premier League game.
Nope, I’ve not got the energy for it either.
Cheers then. COYS.
