‘Winning the Premier League is more important than being Invincible’ – Arsenal legend Ray Parlour’s message to

Arsenal Invincible Ray Parlour has offered some words of comfort for any Liverpool fans left gutted by their defeat to Watford – ‘Going unbeaten doesn’t matter’.

And one Reds supporter told talkSPORT he wasn’t that fussed about the match anyway, and even said he is GLAD they lost against the Hornets.

Jurgen Klopp’s side suffered their first Premier League loss of the season on Saturday, as they were well and truly beaten 3-0 at Vicarage Road.

Liverpool suffered a rare blip against Watford on Saturday

The surprise result ended fans’ hopes of becoming the latest ‘Invincibles’ team and even eclipsing the Gunners’ achievement when they were crowned champions with 26 wins and 12 draws in 2003/04.

Liverpool already have 26 wins, so had the chance to not only end the campaign unbeaten but also beat Arsenal’s legendary achievement, only to fall at an unlikely hurdle against a team battling against relegation.

They are still flying high at the top of the table, and with just 12 points needed to be confirmed champions they’re almost certainly going to lift their first ever Premier League trophy, only theirs won’t be golden.

But Parlour has told Liverpool it’s the trophies that matter, not the records, and says their defeat to Watford was ‘no big deal’, even though, like Gary Neville, he may have toasted it with a few beers…

Asked if he was quite pleased with Liverpool’s defeat, he told Sports Breakfast host Laura Woods: “Of course! I had a few drinks that night, yeah!

“Records are there to be broken and I’m sure if a Liverpool player was in the same place I was they’d want us to lose as well!

“But it’s no big deal, really.

“I know it’s a very good record to have and I’m very proud of it, but the most important thing is winning the league and Liverpool are still going to do that.

“At the start of the season it’s all about winning the league title, it’s not about going unbeaten – that’s a bonus if that happens.

“I know Arsene Wenger said with our team that we could go unbeaten, but at the start of the season all Jurgen Klopp was interested in was winning the Premier League, which it looks like they’re going to do no problem, so it’s been an impressive season anyway.

“Now, it’s all about can they add the FA Cup, can they add the Champions League?

“They’ve still got an opportunity in the second leg against Atletico Madrid, and it’s going to be difficult because they’re a good side, they’re well organised and hard to break down, but you still fancy Liverpool at Anfield.

“So there’s still lots to play for.”

Liverpool fans explains why he is GLAD his side’s unbeaten run was ended by Watford

Meanwhile, a Liverpool fan called into talkSPORT to say he was GLAD his team lost their unbeaten record against the Hornets.

Sports Bar hosts Jason Cundy and Adam Catterall couldn’t believe what he was saying, but the Kopite explained why he believes the defeat will be good for Klopp’s side.

“I’m a bit gutted we got beat but, in a way, I’m glad we lost,” said Will the Red.

“We haven’t played well since the winter break and this was coming, we were going to lose a game.

“I’m glad we’ve lost it now, because I think the team needed to refocus ready for Atletico Madrid.

“I think the players were starting to believe in their own press, that they were invincible and they didn’t have to turn up.

“If we kept playing in the same way, we’d get rolled over by Atletico. So, in a way and looking at the long-term, I think it’ll do us well.”
