Steven Gerrard insists he is fully committed to Rangers despite reports claiming he was seriously considering his future at the club.
Gers were dumped out the Scottish Cup last Saturday with a 1-0 defeat to Hearts and Gerrard admitted it was ‘the lowest I felt since I came into the job by a long way’.
It led to sensational reports claiming he could walk away from Ibrox before the upcoming Premiership clash vs Hamilton on Wednesday night, but the Liverpool legend rubbished those rumours.
“Long term? No, no,” said Gerrard when asked if he’s considered his future.
“From the end of the game at the weekend, which was bitterly disappointing, I have done a real lot of thinking to myself and shared those thoughts with people around me and I am ready to go again.
“I’ve signed up to something here. I’m in, I’m all in.
“I always knew there was going to be periods like this that were tough, real setbacks.
“I think this is when the club needs me most and that is to stay strong and fight on and push and continue to try to improve this and build on the progress we have made in a lot of areas, to learn from some of the things that haven’t gone so well and try to avoid them happening again.
“If you want to survive at this level you have to bounce back pretty quickly from setbacks and the weekend was a low, I am not going to deny that.”
Gerrard’s former Liverpool teammate Danny Murphy told talkSPORT there was absolutely no chance of the Rangers boss walking away from Ibrox, insisting it’s not in his character.
“I would be absolutely amazed if he walked – gobsmacked,” said Murphy. “It’s not in him.
“I don’t think there’s any chance of that happening at all, not even one per cent.
“He was really angry and frustrated in that interview. He was taking responsibility – what he was seeing on the pitch wasn’t what he wanted from his players.
“He was doubting himself, thinking, ‘am I getting my message across?’
“When they think about how far they’ve come as a club, in such a short space of time, it will calm itself down.”
