Scott Fitzgerald has been charged with assault following his arrest over what he described as a ‘a kick off with my ex-partner and her family’.
The British super-welterweight champion is due to appear before Preston Magistrates Court on Thursday having been charged with three counts of common assault and one of witness intimidation.
A Lancashire Police spokesperson told talkSPORT.com: “A man has been charged with assault after a disturbance in Preston.
, 28, was arrested after domestic incidents at addresses on Greenbank Avenue and Ryelands Crescent on Monday (March 30th).
“Following enquiries Fitzgerald, of New North Road, London N1, has been charged with three counts of common assault and one of witness intimidation.
“The alleged victims of the assaults are two women aged 21 and 42 and a man aged 23.
“Fitzgerald was due to appear before Preston Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday, April 2).”
Fitzgerald was hoping for a big 2020 following impressive wins over Anthony Fowler and Ted Cheeseman last year, but has now been suspended by the BBBofC.
He recently had a spell in rehab battling drink, drugs and gambling problems, and has been struggling with issues away from the ring.
Promoter Eddie Hearn explained in an interview with Boxing Social: “Scott Fitzgerald was put into the Sporting Chance Clinic by Steve Wood [manager] mainly, but myself as well because he needed some help.
“He was struggling in life, he was struggling with various forms of addiction. He’s stated this personally so I’m not speaking on his behalf.

“And he’s had a rough time of it to be honest with you. The incident – again, everybody’s got their own version of the story and that’ll come out via the police.
“The main reason he had his licence suspended was because the board didn’t know that he went into Sporting Chance Clinic and they won’t let a fighter fight if he is mentally not right or prepared to fight.
“Obviously the incident is something they took into consideration as well.
“As I understand it, we hope this’ll be cleared up soon, but it still doesn’t take away the fact that he’s work in progress on many different levels.”
