Arsenal players will return to training next week but squad must work alone and adhere to social distancing

Arsenal players are primed to return to their London Colney training base for light work next week – but social distancing measures will remain in place.

The Gunners squad will have access to training pitches on a strict rotational basis, with no group sessions allowed as per current government guidelines concerning the coronavirus pandemic.

All buildings at the complex will remain closed, with individual workouts only allowed to take place on the outdoor pitches.

“Players will be permitted access to our London Colney training grounds next week,” a club spokesperson confirmed.

“Access will be limited, carefully managed and social distancing will be maintained at all times.

“All Colney buildings remain closed. Players will travel alone, do their individual workout and return home.”

Give COVID-19 the red card

The quicker we work together to stop coronavirus spreading, the sooner we can get back into the pubs, the gyms and stadiums and arenas to see live sport again…

STAY AT HOME. Only leave for the following purposes:

  • to shop for basic essentials – only when you really need to
  • to do one form of exercise a day – such as a run, walk or cycle, alone or with other people you live with
  • for any medical need – for example, to visit a pharmacy or deliver essential supplies to a vulnerable person
  • to travel to and from work – but only where this is absolutely necessary

The government has also issued further detail on what we can do during lockdown.

Everyone should do what they can to stop coronavirus spreading.

The latest news comes after a week in which several first-team stars – David Luiz, Granit Xhaka, Nicolas Pepe and Alexandre Lacazette – were spotted flouting rules to remain at home.

A photograph of Nicolas Pepe shared on WhatsApp showed him playing football with a group of people, while Luiz and Xhaka had a kickabout between themselves.

Lacazette was also pictures breaching the government imposed guidelines as he had his car cleaned, with a valeter clearly shown in his driveway.
