WWE champion Drew McIntyre says he hopes to shake the hand of ‘true hero’ Captain Tom Moore one day.
The war veteran, who turns 100 on Thursday, has raised more than £29million for the National Health Service by walking laps in his garden during the coronavirus pandemic.
And his valiant efforts to help the NHS during lockdown have caught the attention of WWE superstar McIntyre.
The Scottish Psychopath became the first British wrestler to win the WWE Championship when he defeated Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36 earlier this month.
McIntyre has revealed a specially designed WWE Championship belt with its side plates reading ‘Happy birthday, 100 NHS, Captain Tom Moore’.
He said: “I am proud that WWE has created a WWE Championship title for Captain Tom Moore featuring personalised side plates to celebrate his 100th birthday and commemorate his achievements for the NHS.
“He is a true hero who stepped up when his country called in World War II, and who stepped up again today with the same selfless courage and determination to help others.
“At WWE our mission is to put smiles on people’s faces around the world.
“Captain Tom Moore has achieved that by uniting millions across the world in support of his truly outstanding fundraising endeavours.
“Captain Tom, I look forward to shaking your hand in person someday.”
Captain Tom has received more than 125,000 cards ahead of his 100th birthday.
And he has been refusing gifts while urging the public to donate to people in need.
On Twitter, he said: “I continue to be offered lots of lovely items. I really do have everything I need but others are struggling due to Covid-19 so, rather than giving to me, please look to donate these generous offers to a local care home or someone in your community. Thank you.”
