Chelsea are on course to land Timo Werner at the start of the next transfer window and £53million seems like a snip if the deal goes through.
That’s not just our take on it here at talkSPORT either, the data scientists over at the CIES Football Observatory think so too.
According to their considered calculations, Werner should really be changing clubs for a fee of around £80.4m considering numerous factors, including his age and talents.
CIES have revealed this in their biannual transfer value list, and they claim the Germany star is the joint-30th most valuable player around, level with Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku.
The latest list also shows a changing of the guard with living legend Cristiano Ronaldo now down in 70th with a possible fee of €62.8m (£55.91m), while Lionel Messi places 22nd rated at €100.1m/£89.12m.
So, who is the most valuable player around and how do you calculate it?
CIES take into account a wide array of variables such as age, contract, position, minutes, goals, international status, team results, and have estimated the possible price of some of the best players from Europe’s top five league.
