Bernd Leno berated Brighton striker Neal Maupay after the Arsenal goalkeeper was forced to leave the field with a seriously concerning injury.

Maupay crashed into Leno as the pair contested a high ball, forcing the Gunners man to land awkwardly – and the resulting injury was too gruesome for TV replays.

Leno was clearly in a great deal of distress and, after a lengthy break, the 28-year-old left the field on a stretcher.

As he was being carried off, the German furiously confronted Maupay and clearly did not feel the collision was accidental, with some Arsenal players also appearing to accuse the French forward of cynicism.

Emiliano Martinez came on in place of the Gunners goalkeeper.

The Gunners have now lost three players to injury since the restart, while David Luiz is suspended following his red card against Man City.

Mikel Arteta confirmed defender Pablo Mari will probably miss the remainder of the season due to the injury sustained on Wednesday night, and Granit Xhaka was also unavailable for the trip to Brighton.

The demands of the Premier League restart have affected Arsenal more than most, with the Gunners playing twice in the space of three days having not competed in a competitive environment for three months.

Arteta was forced into five changes for the Seagulls clash as Arsenal bid and the loss of star man Leno means their injury curse continues.
