Everton scuffed a series of late chances as they held Premier League leaders Liverpool to a goalless draw on Sunday.
The Reds missed Mohamed Salah, who was an unused substitute after being deemed not fit enough to start.
However, the club’s 30-year wait for a top-flight title has edged closer.
They will need to win just one more match to be crowned champions if Man City lose to Burnley on Monday evening.
In a drab contest in both sides’ first game back amid the coronavirus pandemic, the action came late on.
Everton broke as Richarlison crossed for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, whose smart back heel was saved by Alisson.
Tom Davies hit the rebound, which was deflected on to a post by a last-gasp Joe Gomez touch.
Calvert-Lewin then headed the resulting corner wide as Liverpool survived the rare onslaught.
Jurgen Klopp’s men could have snatched all three points in injury-time, but Jordan Pickford turned Fabinho’s free-kick over the bar.
