Harry Kane scored the 200th goal of his career as Tottenham saw off Newcastle at St James’ Park.
The striker was making his 350th appearance in all competitions and scored twice in the 3-1 win, with 185 of those goals coming for his boyhood club.
Victory also means manager Jose Mourinho has finally recorded a win at St James’ Park.
Heung-Min Son opened the scoring to give the visitors a 1-0 half-time lead, but Newcastle were perhaps unlucky to go in behind at the break, especially when Dwight Gayle hit the post.
Both sides started the second 45 minutes strongly, but it was a Matt Ritchie thunderbolt that levelled things 10 minutes into the second half.
That was short lived, though, as Kane hit back almost immediately to score goal no. 200 of his club career.
For Son, this is proving to be a fruitful season for the South Korea international as he has been directly involved in 21 Premier League goals this term – 11 goals and 10 assists – which is his best return in a single campaign.
Newcastle had only lost three games at home before this and managed 22 shots on Spurs’ goal, but could not find a way through.
They have little to play for now and fans will be more concerned about the Saudi Arabia takeover, while Tottenham’s win moves them to seventh, one point behind sixth-place Wolves.
