Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is in disbelief that Trent Alexander-Arnold escaped a red card for a nasty-looking tackle on Bukayo Saka.
The Liverpool full-back was given a yellow card for connecting with the Arsenal youngster’s shin in the 48th minute of the Gunners’ 2-1 win over the newly-crowned Premier League champions on Wednesday.
However, surprisingly, VAR did not intervene to look back on the horror tackle.
And Arsenal captain Aubameyang is stunned.
Replying to a screenshot of the tackle on Twitter, he wrote: “WTF didn’t even get the VAR on this one.”
A section of Arsenal fans have compared Alexander-Arnold’s tackle to Eddie Nketiah’s challenge on Leicester defender James Justin last week.
The Arsenal striker was dismissed only four minutes after being introduced from the bench as he caught Justin on the knee.
A yellow card was initially dished out by referee Chris Kavanagh, who then altered his decision to a sending off after reviewing footage using a pitchside monitor.
The Gunners then failed in their appeal against Nketiah’s dismissal and his three-match ban stood.
Arsenal secured an impressive 2-1 win over Liverpool thanks to goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Reiss Nelson.
Sadio Mane had given Liverpool a 20th-minute lead, but the game turned on its head due to individual errors from Virgil van Dijk and Alisson.
The win keeps Arsenal’s slim hopes of qualifying for European football alive with Mikel Arteta’s side three places below sixth-placed Wolves with two matches left.
