The Toffees are the first club to make an official approach for the 24-year-old, who has one year left on his contract at St Mary’s.

Despite Hojbjerg’s preference to join Tottenham, the club are unwilling to match Everton’s bid as it stands.

According to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, the north London outfit have asked about a part-exchange deal involving Kyle Walker-Peters.

The right-back has spent the entirety of the season on loan with Saints and is trusted by Ralph Hasenhuttl in his back four.

Hojbjerg made his intentions to leave the south coast clear in June and, after informing the club he would not be signing an extension to keep him beyond the final 12 months of his contract.

Hasenhuttl duly stripped him of the captaincy and awarded it to James Ward-Prowse, with the Austria international featuring three times since ‘Project Restart’ was launched.

Jose Mourinho reportedly sees current holding midfield Eric Dier as a centre-half and wants Hojbjerg to move to Spurs as a viable upgrade.
