Gunners legend says he’d rather have Zaha at the club over top scorer Aubameyang due to his age and future potential
Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has told talkSPORT he would be happy to sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to fund a summer move for Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha – but NOT if it’s to Manchester United.
It has been claimed the Gunners will listen to offers for joint Premier League Golden Boot winner Aubameyang this summer as they look to boost their transfer budget.
Man United have been linked with an interest in the 30-year-old striker, but Parlour told talkSPORT last week it would be ‘madness’ for the Gunners to sell another star player to the Red Devils.
However, the ‘Invincibles’ hero admits he would let the Gabon international go elsewhere if it meant bringing Zaha to the Emirates as his replacement.
The 26-year-old flyer has been strongly linked with a move to the club he has supported as a boy, but they have no chance to meeting anywhere near Palace’s £100m valuation with their current budget – reported to be around just £40m.
Wilfried Zaha always wanted to join Arsenal and has supported the club from a young age
Asked by Laura Woods who he would rather have at Arsenal, Parlour said on Monday’s Sports Breakfast: “If you look at their ages, you’ve got to say Zaha, haven’t you? Potentially he’s got many more years left in him.
“Aubameyang, as much as a good player he is, he’s 30 now and once you get over 30 your body starts going downhill, you get a few more niggles and recovery time is a bit longer.
“So in that respect you’d have Zaha, but if you had to sell Aubameyang to Man United to get Zaha, you might look at it differently – even though Alex Sanchez has gone to United and he’s been a disaster.
“In an ideal world you’d keep Aubameyang and Lacazette and also bring in Zaha, that’s the ideal solution.
“But with their financial situation, Crystal Palace are asking for £100m but if Arsenal did want him they’d be going in at £50m I would imagine.”
