“We have a trade”…

Lions GM Brad Holmes pulls off a trade up to aggressively land the quarterback of the future in Detroit. With some consultation from Dolphins Wire editor Kyle Crabbs, we worked out the following deal:

Lions trade No. 7 overall, No. 101 overall (the third-rounder acquired from the Rams), and a 2022 first-round pick (whichever one is higher, the Lions own or the Rams’) to Miami for No. 3 overall and Miami’s seventh-round pick at No. 231 (acquired from Houston).

It’s moving up to get Trey Lance, the precocious North Dakota State quarterback with sky-high potential but limited experience. Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields were off the board here. Lance lands in Detroit, where he gets time to learn and develop behind Jared Goff for a year (or two) without being thrown into the fray before he’s ready.

And because you want to know…Miami takes either Kyle Pitts (preferred) or Ja’Marr Chase at No. 7.
