Florida State added Notre Dame offensive line transfer Dillan Gibbons on Monday. The 6-foot-4, 309-pound lineman entered the NCAA transfer portal last week and quickly made a decision on where he intends to spend the remainder of his college career. While he can play multiple spots along the line, he could find himself as part of FSU’s rotation at guard.
I’m excited to announce my commitment to Florida State University. I look forward to helping @Coach_Norvell, @CoachAAtkins, and my new teammates win football games while pursuing my graduate education at home, in the Sunshine State. @FSUFootball pic.twitter.com/jgDYP5GiVD

The 6-foot-4, 309-pound lineman, who is a graduate student, originally hails from Clearwater, Fla. He attended Clearwater Central Catholic before opting for Notre Dame. He was the first commitment for the Irish in their 2017 class.
The fifth-year senior entered this spring with Notre Dame as a candidate to win the left guard starting spot or to end up at center.
During the 2020 season, Gibbons saw action in 11 of 12 games, with a start against Syracuse. That marked the lone start of his career with the Irish. He also performed at a high level when he filled in at left guard against FSU during the third game of the 2020 season when Liam Eichenberg was temporarily sidelined. A majority of the remainder of his action was on the blocking unit for field goals and extra points.
In 2019, he played in all 13 games, primarily on special teams. He was credited with a tackle at Michigan.
The 2018 season saw him appear in five games over the course of the season. He worked on special teams during those appearances.
During his first season on campus in 2017, he was one of 10 scholarship freshmen who spent the season on scout team and did not see the field. He was the team’s Offensive Scout Team Player of the Year in 2017.
