Asked the expected question about his contract situation after masterminding Chelsea’s second Champions League triumph by beating
Manchester City on Saturday, head coach Thomas Tuchel gave an unexpected response.
“I’m not even 100 per cent sure, but maybe I have a new contract now with that win!” he said with a smile. “My manager said something about that but I don’t know so let’s see.”
Tuchel’s instinct was correct.
Sources have told The Athletic that the agreement that brought him to Chelsea at the end of January included an automatic extension clause in the event that he managed to win the Champions League. He’s managed it after four months.
