Good afternoon Bucknuts subscribers! There is plenty going on with Ohio State football recruiting so let’s get started! I will of course have plenty more throughout the afternoon, night and tomorrow.

1) I look for the first Ohio State official visit weekend to be a very good one for the Buckeyes. This morning I Crystal Balled safety Zion Branch to Ohio State so obviously I feel very good about how things went for Branch in Columbus this weekend. This would be an absolutely huge commitment for the Buckeyes. Ryan Day and his staff are looking to beat out Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, USC and many others for Branch. Branch is a top of the board guy the Ohio State staff has been making a huge pitch to land. He can be a defensive difference maker.

I have said on multiple occasions I don’t expect a high number of commitments the first weekend in June though I do think Branch could be one to buck that line of thinking. Recruits have waited so long to make visits and I expect them in large numbers to want to take at least some of their trips. So recruits not announcing a commitment to Ohio State this early is nothing to worry about. The weekend with the Buckeyes left a very good impression on the recruits at Ohio State and their parents, both the recruits on official visits and guys making unofficial visits too. I’ll have much more on that in the subsequent items in this column, but first want to mention a 2023 recruit that visited Ohio State this weekend without a lot of fanfare.

Making an unofficial visit to Ohio State on Saturday was 2023 Bixby (Okla.) tight end Luke Hasz. The 6-foot-3 and 220-pound Hasz is the country’s No. 1 class of 2023 tight end. His list of scholarship offers includes Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Alabama, LSU, Baylor, Texas A&M, Texas, TCU, USC, Oregon, Florida State, Minnesota and others.

Ohio State offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Kevin Wilson is recruiting Hasz. Wilson continues to work tirelessly and do a great job with the Buckeyes’ offense, recruiting and being an outstanding promoter of the program overall.
