Eden Hazard has backed his Chelsea successor Christian Pulisic to become a star for the Blues.

The Belgian leaves a gaping hole at Stamford Bridge after joining Real Madrid earlier this summer.

Hazard carried the Blues for many years and Chelsea are unable to buy a replacement with the £89million they received due to a two-window transfer ban.

However, they do welcome Pulisic to the squad after signing him from Borussia Dortmund in January for £58million.

While the 20-year-old American has already said he is keen to avoid comparisons to Hazard, the Blues legend himself predicts big things for Pulisic.

Speaking to The Associated Press, Hazard said: “He can be one of the best in the future for sure.

“He can be (a star). Now he’s at one of the best clubs in the world. He’s a proper player. He can play football.”

Pulisic has already shown glimpses of what he can do during pre-season – and Frank Lampard will look to unlock the winger’s true potential following a mixed spell in the Bundesliga.

He failed to score more than four times during any of his four league seasons in Germany, often playing second-fiddle to Jadon Sancho and Marco Reus.

Speaking to Sky Sports in Japan, Pulisic said: “I’m not here to compare or anything.

“Obviously Eden was amazing and he did so well for this club, as you could see last season and the whole time he’s been here.

“He was an incredible player [for Chelsea].

“For me, it’s coming in as my own player, proving myself and doing the best I can to help this team.”
