Teddy Sheringham believes Harry Maguire is an ideal signing for Manchester United because of his calming influence.
The Champions League winner was talking to talkSPORT about Maguire’s qualities as a defender and likened them to that of former Man United captain Steve Bruce, Chelsea hero John Terry and ex-Arsenal skipper Tony Adams.
Leicester are believed to want around £90m for the 26-year-old and it is thought Old Trafford manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – Sheringham’s former team-mate – is very keen on him.
“I think he would be perfect,” Sheringham told the Sport Breakfast show.
“I think he’s got a calming effect on player’s around him and he doesn’t panic when he gets on the ball.
“He’s good in both boxes, which is always a big plus for central defenders.
“Players like Tony Adams, Steve Bruce and John Terry – they’re organised – they don’t have to be lightning quick and instead organise people around them and make sure there’s no gaps at the back and that’s what being a centre half is all about for me.”
Maguire, who scored for England at the World Cup, has become a full international since leaving Hull for Leicester in 2017 and reportedly wants a transfer to be pushed through.
It is thought he had a gentleman’s agreement with Leicester last year, after signing a new deal, that they would not stand in his way if a good offer came in for him this summer and now wants the Foxes to let him go.
