Idrissa Gueye has joined Paris Saint-Germain from Everton in a deal worth a reported £25million, the Premier League club have announced.

The Senegal international joined the Toffees in 2016 after a season with Aston Villa, having previously been at Ligue 1 side Lille.

The 29-year-old made 99 Premier League appearances for the Merseyside club, scoring three goals.

PSG tried to sign the tough-tackling midfielder in January, but despite Gueye’s transfer request, Everton rejected a £21.5m bid.

Marco Silva was hopeful Gueye might be persuaded to stay at Goodison Park, but the the nifty midfielder was determined to force the move through when the transfer window reopened.

He issued a ‘come and get me’ plea to the French club in February and begged them to renew their interest this summer.

Gueye told L’Equipe: “I was honoured that PSG were interested in me. Now, I know that I am of interest to these types of clubs, I am ready to go to the final level to join a top European club.

“I am going to work even more so that they come back to me. Maybe it is not finished with PSG.”

Everton have readied themselves for the departure of Gueye by signing Andre Gomes on a permanent basis from Barcelona after his successful loan spell last season, while also adding Fabian Delph from Manchester City for £8.5m.

Nonetheless, Gueye will be sorely missed following three incredible seasons on Merseyside.

No player completed more tackles in the Premier League than Gueye during the three years he spent at Everton.

Following the completion of the move, Gueye took to social media to give thanks to Everton fans for their support during his time with the club.

He wrote: “Thank YOU! Since my arrival I have felt at home at this club, you have welcomed me and my family with open arms.

“Everton FC gave me the opportunity to continue in the premier league and the last 3 years I have had some amazing experiences which I will cherish forever.

“I am grateful to have had the love and support of you all throughout this journey and I must say no matter the weather or permformances the support was always there.”
