The Telegraph claim Villa will pay £8million to sign Heaton, with add-ons totalling a further £500,000 included in the deal.

Heaton has entered the final year of his contract and emerged as a target for Dean Smith, the Villa manager, after he originally looked at Jack Butland of Stoke and Neil Etheridge, the Cardiff glovesman.

Now 33, Heaton joined Burnley six years ago and has been a key figure for the Clarets since.

He has made exactly 200 appearances in all competitions for the Turf Moor club, helping them win promotion to the Premier League in 2014/15, and then return to the top flight two years later after being immediately relegated back to the Championship.

His form for Burnley has also earned Heaton international recognition, with three England caps won while on their books.

Heaton is expected to be followed through the door by Marvelous Nakamba, the Zimbabwe international, who will become Villa’s 12th summer signing in an £11million deal.
