Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer savoured a moment to remember as he returned to his hometown club Kristiansund on Tuesday evening – with his eldest son Noah making his professional debut for the Norwegian side.
United needed an injury-time penalty to win the pre-season encounter, with Juan Mata earning and dispatching the spot-kick after being brought down when put through on goal by a Paul Pogba pass.
It proved to be an extra special night for the Norwegian coach – who played over 100 games for Clausenengen – one of two teams that joined to form Kristiansund in 2003 – as his 19-year-old son came off the bench for the hosts late on.
Solskjaer’s youngest son, Elijah, also watched the match from the dugout with his father.
“Noah makes his debut in front of 28,000 – it’s not very often a Norwegian does that,” Solskjaer told MUTV. “Elijah next to me enjoyed it.
“Their players have been in our dressing room, swapping shirts and taking pictures, and our boys have been outstanding. The camaraderie is good.”
Meanwhile, Solskjaer revealed after the game that he hopes to bring in ‘one or two’ more new signings before the transfer window closes – but would not be drawn on personnel.
“I’m not here to talk about rumours about other teams’ players. We’re working on one or two cases,” he told manutd.com.
“It’s 10 days or so before we start the league and hopefully we can announce a fresh face or two.”
