Robert Snodgrass knew Harry Maguire and Andy Robertson would make it to the very top when they were his team-mates at Hull.
Maguire recently became the most expensive defender in history by joining Manchester United from Leicester in an £80million deal.
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s Andy Robertson is widely considered one of the best full-backs in the world and lifted the Champions League in June.
But as recently as 2017, the pair made up half of a Hull defence that was relegated from the Premier League.
They joined at the same time in 2014 – Robertson from Dundee United in a £2.85m deal and Maguire from Sheffield United for £2.5m – and both have since become full internationals with Scotland and England respectively.
And Snodgrass recalls being ridiculed when he predicted Maguire and Robertson’s meteoric rise.
“I went into the physio room at Hull and said, ‘Harry Maguire and Andy Robertson are going to the very top’. They all started laughing!” the West Ham midfielder told talkSPORT.
“In football terms, it’s Hull, if you’re fighting relegation then you don’t get the credit. But sometimes you need to find the diamonds in the rough.
“I remember the two of them coming through, Harry’s got that awkward style, he’s a big centre-half, but you don’t realise how good he is until he starts playing.
“One day the manager put him in central midfield and he was brilliant. We knew straight away.
“When I saw Andy Robertson for the first time, I thought, ‘How have the two Old Firm boys let him slip through?’
“What a rise in his career.”
