Justin Fields continue to stack solid practices at training camp, where there’s been noticeable improvement from his first week where growing pains were present.
Fields faced off against the first-team defense again during Saturday’s live period, but that defense was without Khalil Mack and Akiem Hicks (vet rest days), Eddie Goldman (reserve/COVID-19) and Roquan Smith (groin), who made an impressive play to pick off his shovel pass on Friday.
Still, Fields had another solid practice, where he continues to wow with his skillset, whether that’s the velocity on his balls, his ability to change his arm angle on throws and his overall accuracy.
“We’ve talked a lot about the velocity of Justin Fields’ throws, but it’s worth noting how accurate he’s been,” wrote The Athletic’s Kevin Fishbain. “He had a couple sail on him today, but one throw that caught my eye was when he hit Rodney Adams late in team drills, getting the ball to Adams in stride at the exact spot the receiver was expecting. Adams has had a very active camp, and is one of the beneficiaries of getting to work with both Dalton and Fields.”

Once again, it was Fields’ connection with Jesse James that was evident. During the “backed up” drill on the 1-yard line, with the pocket collapsing, Fields threw a pass to James over the middle for a first down, which Fishbain noted was Fields’ best throw of the day.
