AUBURN, Alabama — Fifth-year defensive tackle Tyrone Truesdell is no longer part of the Auburn football program, Bryan Harsin told reporters Tuesday afternoon following the team’s fourth practice of preseason camp.
“He’s not part of our team,” Harsin said, clarifying an earlier answer where he said Truesdell is not with the team “as of right now.”
A member of Auburn’s 2017 recruiting class, Truesdell had 14 tackles through his first two seasons before securing a starting defensive-tackle spot in 2019. He had nine tackles for loss and three sacks over the past two seasons.
In February, Truesdell decided to exercise his “COVID year” of eligibility from the NCAA and return in 2021. He was a starter at nose tackle in Derek Mason‘s defense through spring practices a few months ago.
Auburn has another veteran at nose tackle who could take Truesdell’s place in UAB transfer Tony Fair, who has garnered plenty of praise from his teammates and coaches already this preseason. Marquis Burks, who was a starter on the interior D-line in the spring, Lee Hunter and J.J. Pegues could all see increased usage now, as well.
