“I’m just evaluating everything right now,” a masked
Nick Bosa said at the start of training camp when
asked about his vaccination status. “I haven’t made a decision quite yet, but just following the protocols and see where it goes.”

It sounds like the San Francisco 49ers defensive end is done evaluating and decided to join the vast majority of his teammates and players around the league in getting vaccinated.

“Nick Bosa, who was one of the few 49ers who hadn’t received a COVID-19 vaccination when training camp began, has now been vaccinated, according to a league source,” wrote Matt Barrows of The Athletic.

That means Bosa won’t be subject to the NFL restrictions in place for unvaccinated players. That’s good news for the 49ers, who won’t have to worry about losing their best pass rusher should he be identified as a close-contact to someone who tests positive for COVID-19.

“There’s a big advantage if you’re vaccinated, and you’re deemed a close-contact,” general manager John Lynch said this week. “If you’re vaccinated, you’re pretty much good. If you’re not vaccinated, you might be out, by virtue of being around someone who may have had it, you might be out for 10 days. You can imagine, that’d be a heck of a way to lose a guy when you have that choice.”

Lynch added that all but four 49ers players had received at least one shot of the vaccine. That’s a vaccination rate of about 96 percent. As of last week, the league average among players was 91.7 percent.

“And then everybody else in the building is (vaccinated),” Lynch said. “Our group did a really good job. We didn’t mandate anything. We educated people, and I think a lot of people arrived (at the right decision).”

Bosa is returning from a torn ACL suffered in September of 2020. The 49ers have been cautious in their efforts to ramp up the pass rusher’s workload during training camp. Bosa didn’t play on Saturday against the Kansas City Chiefs and isn’t expected to start participating in team drills until next week, after the team returns from its trip to play the Los Angeles Chargers this weekend.

Added Barrows: “[Bosa] was seen wearing a mask on the sideline during Saturday’s game, an indication that his vaccination was recent.”

Do you have any expectation on when the guys on the COVID List are expected back? Has there been any clarity on that in the last few days?

“I’m not sure the exact time they’ll be back whenever they’re back, we’ll be happy to have them.”

How have the rookie cornerback’s been coming along now that you’ve gone through a few other guys? The two, they have to learn a lot, obviously so this is good that they’re getting the reps that they need?

John Lynch will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame today. He took time out of his busy schedule this week to speak with Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area and shared his thoughts on the road to football immortality.

While Lynch is being recognized for his 15 combined seasons as an NFL safety, he currently serves as the San Francisco 49ers general manager. He has high expectations for the current roster he has helped build. Unfortunately, the team has failed to find consistent success. While it reached the Super Bowl during the 2019 season, three of the past four seasons have resulted in six-or-fewer wins.

While Lynch is in Canton for this weekend’s festivities, he has managed to sneak some glances at the practice footage on his iPad and enjoyed

Kyle Shanahan: No setbacks for Nick Bosa, 49ers pass rusher remains on track for Week 1

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch revealed this weekend that we probably wouldn’t see a whole lot—if any—of defensive end Nick Bosa during the preseason. However, the talented pass rusher remains on track to contribute in Week 1 when the 49ers face the Detroit Lions.

During Week 2 of last season, Bosa suffered an ACL injury, which ended his 2020 campaign.

After today’s practice, head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked if he feels the 2019 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year remains on track for Week 1.

“I believe so,” Shanahan responded. “I mean, that’s been the plan all along. There’s been no setbacks. He’s doing great right

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan lays out the plan for Nick Bosa, Dee Ford

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan says he is excited about the progress of two defenders returning from injuries—pass rushers Dee Ford and Nick Bosa. By Week 2 last season, both were permanently out of the lineup, and the defense missed their presence for the remainder of the year.

Ford, who is coming off neck and back injuries, has been practicing, and Shanahan is becoming more optimistic that the veteran will be available for the whole season. But, of course, the team is still being careful with Ford, limiting his reps in practice and trying to avoid any setbacks.

“These last few practices, he’s getting more and more reps and playing at a high level,” Shanahan said Thursday morning on KNBR’s Murph & Mac show. “And the key is to
