Sam Allardyce has hailed Aaron Wan-Bissaka for his quick transition at Manchester United, and says he helped ‘convert’ him to a right-back at Crystal Palace.
Many scoffed at the £50million spent on landing the 21-year-old this summer, but Wan-Bissaka has proven a smart signing by United.
He has impressed with his performances since moving to Old Trafford and was named man-of-the-match in Monday’s 1-1 Premier League draw at Wolves.
But not only is Wan-Bissaka proving a dependable defender – his nine successful tackles against Wolves was the most any player managed in a single game over the opening two weekends – he is also a threat going forward.
The United ace actually began his career as a winger in the Palace youth ranks, before being developed in a more defensive position and making his Premier League debut in that position in February 2018.
And Allardyce has told talkSPORT he played a big role in Wan-Bissaka transition and is proud of how comfortable the youngster looks in a Red Devils shirt.
“We converted him into a right-back at Palace, so I know him very, very well,” Big Sam said on Tuesday’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.
“He didn’t break into the team when I was there, but he was training with us every day and he always looked the best prospect of the youngsters.
“He’s done a terrific job.
“There’s big pressure on him, a £50m signing and playing for Manchester United, but he looks very comfortable, I’m glad to say.”
