It was another frantic night of action in the Championship, with Leeds United and Swansea City both maintaining their unbeaten starts to the season.
Here’s what happened in England’s second-tier….
Leeds United 1-0 Brentford
Eddie Nketiah made a name for himself at Elland Road by coming off the bench and netting a late winner as Leeds returned to the top of the Championship with a 1-0 victory over Brentford.
With former Arsenal striker Ian Wright watching on from the stands, the Gunners loanee was sent on for his Championship debut in the 77th minute in a bid to find a goal.
And just four minutes later, the 20-year-old tapped home from Helder Costa’s cross to ensure Leeds leagfrogged Sheffield Wednesday to the summit.
Former United defender Pontus Jansson appeared to be helping his new side to a point on his return to the stadium where he made his name in English football.
A fans’ favourite at the Whites, the Swede’s departure to the Bees for just £5.5million this summer baffled many of the home supporters.
Jansson was the subject of occasional boos and chants of ‘You’re Leeds and you know you are’, but could not prevent Nketiah’s winner – which Gunners legend Wright celebrated wildly.
Swansea 3-1 QPR
Swansea won 3-1 at QPR to continue their excellent start under new boss Steve Cooper.
Borja Baston’s 70th-minute penalty put them back in front soon after Jordan Hugill’s equaliser and Sam Surridge rubber-stamped the victory by nodding in Andre Ayew’s cross from close range 10 minutes later.
Borja netted from the spot after Yoann Barbet tripped Jordon Carrick, just three minutes after Hugill had cancelled out Bersant Celina’s opener.
Hugill headed Ilias Chair’s right-wing cross into the far corner of the net only for Rangers to disintegrate.
Fulham 4-0 Millwall
Ivan Cavaleiro struck twice as Fulham eased their way to a one-sided 4-0 victory over Millwall at Craven Cottage.
The Portugal winger, signed on a season-long loan from Wolves, followed up his superb match-winning strike at Huddersfield last Friday with two outstanding finishes.
Anthony Knockaert, another of Scott Parker’s summer signings, and Aleksandar Mitrovic were also on target as the Cottagers registered a third successive win and brought Millwall’s unbeaten run in the Sky Bet Championship to a halt.
Neil Harris’ side had earned praise for the way they had started the campaign but they never looked like getting anything from a game dominated by the home side.
Cardiff City 2-1 Huddersfield
Junior Hoilett snatched a late winner for Cardiff as Huddersfield slipped to a 2-1 defeat in their first match since sacking manager Jan Siewert.
Former Cardiff promotion-winning captain Mark Hudson has taken caretaker charge of the Terriers and they looked like they would ease their problems with a battling point.
Siewert was dismissed following Huddersfield’s defeat to Fulham last Friday.
Joe Ralls put Cardiff into the lead in the 42nd minute before Trevoh Chalobah levelled early in the second half. It looked like it would be enough for a point, but Cardiff substitute Hoilett won it two minutes from time.
Preston 3-1 Stoke
Stoke paid the price for two mistakes by goalkeeper Jack Butland as dominant Preston secured their second Sky Bet Championship win of the season with a 3-1 victory over the division’s bottom side.
Nathan Jones’ Potters, who were second best throughout and are still looking for their first victory of the campaign, were booed off by their own supporters at Deepdale.
James McClean’s late strike proved merely a consolation after Josh Harrop had made the game safe with a goal 20 minutes from time.
West Bromwich Albion 1-1 Reading
Kenneth Zohore’s late penalty rescued a point for West Brom after Reading’s Ovie Ejaria went from hero to zero.
Liverpool loanee’s Ejaria’s stunner looked to have given the Royals victory only for him to concede a late penalty to allow Zohore to earn a 1-1 draw.
Zohore stepped off the bench to score his first Baggies goal but Albion boss Slaven Bilic is still looking for his first win at The Hawthorns since his summer appointment.
Charlie Austin was thwarted by Royals goalkeeper Rafael Cabral and Grady Diangana fired over but Albion’s home frustrations continued.
Charlton 1-1 Nottingham Forest
Lyle Taylor’s fourth goal in as many games was not enough for a Charlton victory as a late Albert Adomah equaliser earned Nottingham Forest a point from a 1-1 draw.
Taylor had scored in each of the Addicks’ first three Championship games and he added a fourth after 18 minutes at The Valley.
The goal came at the end of a move involving 22 passes when Taylor headed Charlton in front but Forest proved resilient and earned a point as Adomah pounced on a corner to shoot home from close range late on.
