This weekend, we’re kicking things off at St Mary’s as Ralph Hasenhuttl and the Saints host Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United.

Southampton lost their opening two top-flight fixtures this term but bounced back last weekend with a 2-0 win at Brighton.

United, meanwhile, were superb in their 4-0 opening day victory over Chelsea but were woeful to lose 2-1 at home to Crystal Palace last time out.

Both sides will now be looking for three points in this weekend’s early kick-off.

This fixture finished 2-2 last term while United won their Old Trafford meeting 3-2, suggesting there will be goals on the south coast.

talkSPORT will have a full schedule of live and exclusive coverage throughout the day and here’s how you can catch our first offering.

Southampton vs Man United: What has been said?

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl: “We are gaining more confidence after the last two games. We have kept two clean sheets and even if we have a few injuries now, we have good subs who are looking forward to playing.

“It’s up to me to find the right balance and I am sure we have a squad who on the pitch can create problems. I think with Manchester United you always have pressure.”

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: “Clean sheets are always the foundation to build on and we started really well against Chelsea, but we know the two against Palace should have been avoided.

“We hope to go down there [to Southampton] and look stronger at the back.

“It’s time for our boys to feel that responsibility. That’s something we are looking forward to at this club.

“With what we’ve done in pre-season, we are mentally and physically ready for that challenge. That’s the next step.”

Southampton vs Man United: Team news

Southampton will be without injured wingers Nathan Redmond and Moussa Djenepo.

Redmond could be sidelined for up to three weeks after suffering an ankle injury in the midweek Carabao Cup win at Fulham, while summer signing Djenepo sustained a muscle problem in that match.

Michael Obafemi, who scored the winner at Craven Cottage, is doubtful because of cramp. Left-back Ryan Bertrand (ankle) has returned to training and will be assessed.

Meanwhile, United duo Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw have been ruled out of the trip to the south coast.

Martial sustained a thigh complaint in the loss to Crystal Palace, while Shaw pulled up with a hamstring issue that is likely to keep him out for a further four weeks.

Eric Bailly, Diogo Dalot and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are others absent through injury, while Chris Smalling is set to join Roma and Matteo Darmian is also potentially leaving.
