Chelsea have released their new third kit for the 2019/20 season – and it’s a real throwback.

The retro, ’90s-inspired jersey – launched by rising stars Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham – features an eye-catching, squared-off collar bearing the club’s name.

It is predominantly black with an orange trim, a nostalgic nod to the iconic away strip worn between 1994 and 1996, sparking memories of Ruud Gullit’s dazzling spell at the club.

Nike completes the retro feel with their ‘Futura’ logo, while ‘CFC’ runs across the front in font borrowed from the ’90s programmes at Stamford Bridge.

Mount said: “You can see the ’90s influence in fashion at the moment, and I think the kit will appeal to pretty much everyone.

“Younger fans will like that it has a streetwear vibe and older fans will appreciate the sentimentality, remembering club legends who donned the famous shirt and their memories of going to games.”

Chelsea will wear the new kit for the first time when they travel to Lille in the Champions League on October 2.

The unveiling comes the day after Nike released Tottenham’s stunning new third kit, which features a similarly retro feel.
