Tony Cascarino has told talkSPORT that he believes Everton lack any kind of leaders in their ‘non-talking team’ after a 2-0 defeat at home to newly-promoted Sheffield United on Saturday.
A Yerry Mina own goal and Lys Mousset’s first goal for the Blades either side of the break consigned the Blues to a first defeat in eight games at Goodison Park.
And the former Chelsea striker was not impressed with Marco Silva’s side’s performance and believes they are in a ‘very difficult’ situation as things stand.
“I’m looking round that pitch now and I’m thinking do any of them talk? Do they speak? They look like a non-talking team,” Cascarino told the Weekend Sports Breakfast.
“I remember their team when they had captains like [Phil] Jagielka, [Ashley] Williams who was the captain of Wales, Seamus Coleman captain of Ireland.
“I find it a very difficult scenario. You come up against a team [Sheffield United] that are a complete contradiction of what Everton are about, players that want to prove themselves at the top level and a manager [Chris Wilder] who is quite outspoken.”
Cascarino is not convinced Silva has spend wisely in the transfer market since his appointment last summer, a luxury former Toffees boss David Moyes never had during his stint in Merseyside.
The former Hull and Watford boss has also made some questionable team selections, according to the 57-year-old.
“The massive difference between David Moyes and Marco Silva is that David Moyes didn’t have any money, even close to what Marco Silva’s had,” he added.
“Have Everton really got the luxury to spend £30+million and have [Alex] Iwobi as a substitute? I find that really weird.
“You know he’s only just brought him to the club and he was a substitute yesterday. He might not have hit the ground running but I just find the dynamics really strange.”
