Manchester United are set for huge summer in the transfer market with a £300million spending spree on the cards.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, Red Devils chiefs are plotting a series of sensational raids on some of Europe’s top talents.
And The Times, meanwhile, adds that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is involved in planning next summer’s targets, with the deals to be under way as early as February.
It also points out the differences between the current boss and his predecessor, Jose Mourinho, with Solskjaer being on board with a policy where the optimum age for new recruits is 23 whereas Mourinho liked proven talent. His request for Jerome Boeteng in August 2018 was vetoed by the recruitment team in charge of transfer strategy – the first time this had happened.
Solskjaer splashed around £140million prior to the current season, making Harry Maguire the most expensive defender in history and snapping up wonderkids Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
There remains plenty of work for Man United to do, though, with some seriously below-par performances with an injury hit squad.
And, in a sign the Norwegian is at Old Trafford for the long haul, it appears another big summer of spending is in the works.
With January possibly inflating prices, the Red Devils are ready to wait until the second 2020 transfer window to do their business.
A striker is set to be top of their agenda and 23-year-old Lyon ace Moussa Dembele is believed to be the main target, as will be Leicester City playmaker James Maddison, 22, who continues to impress.
Meanwhile, 24-year-old Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez could also be joining the ranks at Old Trafford.
In 2017 he signed an astonishing nine-year contract with Diego Simeone’s side but he could be replacement for Paul Pogba should he finally head to Real Madrid.
