Manchester United’s problems have not gone away over the international break as they prepare for the visit of league leaders Liverpool.
In fact, they’ve got worse, with David de Gea joining the likes of Paul Pogba, Luke Shaw and Jesse Lingard in an already-crowded treatment room.
The Spain goalkeeper appeared to tweak a hamstring while taking a goal kick during the Euro 2020 qualifier with Sweden on Tuesday night.
“I don’t expect him to play,” Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said in his press conference on Friday.
“But it wasn’t as bad as feared. When I saw the game, I thought that’s him out until next international break because we’ve had some long-term muscle injuries but it’s not as bad as feared.”
It comes as a huge blow to Solskjaer, who is under mounting pressure after overseeing the club’s worst start to a campaign for 30 years.
But the player did travel with the Man United squad suggesting there is still a chance he could play.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Anthony Martial could return for the Red Devils just in time for the crunch clash.
Liverpool’s injury news has been positive, with goalkeeper Alisson Becker and forward Mohamed Salah set to start.
Alisson has been sidelined since the opening day with a calf injury while Salah suffered an ankle injury in the Reds’ 2-1 win over Leicester before the international break.
