Alexis Sanchez had an eventful full debut for Inter Milan as the forward scored twice before being sent off for diving.
The Chile international is on loan from Manchester United and replaced Romelu Lukaku in the starting line-up against Sampdoria.
The 30-year-old made an instant impact for Antonio Conte’s side by netting twice in the opening 22 minutes.
His first was slightly fortuitous as his team-mate Stefano Sensi’s shot deflected off his back and went in.
Sanchez displayed his striker’s instincts for the second when he latched on to a weak shot behind the Sampdoria defence and fired home.
The Manchester United player now has more Serie A goals in just three total appearances than he did in the whole of last season in the Premier League when he played 20 times.
The forward quickly went from hero to zero, though, as he received his second yellow card early in the second half for diving.
Inter Milan went on to win the game 3-1 with their third being scored by Roberto Gagliardini.
Manchester United will be perhaps looking on with a touch of regret as they are threadbare up front at the moment.
Lukaku and Sanchez both left for Inter this summer, with the latter only on loan, while Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have been struggling with injuries.
They may have to rely on 17-year-old Mason Greenwood for their clash with Arsenal on Monday.
