Manchester City star Bernardo Silva could be investigated by The Football Association over a tweet he sent to team-mate Benjamin Mendy.

The tweet comprised a picture of Mendy as a child alongside the logo for Spanish chocolate company Conguitos.

In response to the message from the Portuguese midfielder, Mendy, who also played alongside Silva at Monaco, replied with with a number of a laughing and clapping emojis and the message, ‘1-0 for you will see’.

Despite the City defender’s light-heated response, others on social media were far from impressed and Silva soon deleted the tweet from his account.

However, the FA was made aware and they will look into the tweet. Should they decide to investigate the matter further, Silva could be hit with a fine or face a ban.

Silva, who scored a hat-trick in City’s 8-0 thrashing of Watford on Saturday, later sent out a message on Twitter reading: ‘Can’t even joke with a friend these days… You guys …’.

Racism in football has reared its ugly head this season, and the online abuse of players on social media is due to be discussed by clubs with Twitter.

In recent weeks, the likes of Tammy Abraham, Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba and Yakou Meite have all been targeted by online trolls.
