The Buckeyes have landed commitment No. 12 for their 2022 recruiting class as cornerback Ryan Turner from Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep has announced he is headed to Ohio State to continue his education and football career. Turner was offered a scholarship on Feb. 2 by Ohio State secondary coach Matt Barnes. Turner Is the third cornerback in the Ohio State 2022 recruiting class.
“I love how they are always a Top 10 (team) every year and how they produce DBs into the NFL every year,” Turner has told Bucknuts.
Turner visited Ohio State with his parents for the first time over the weekend. He was on a self-guided visit as the NCAA extended dead period remains intact until at least May 31 when the thinking is it will be switched to a quiet period.
Turner picked Ohio State over a list of at least 26 offers that in addition to Ohio State includes Clemson, Florida, LSU, Miami, Arkansas, Oregon, Penn State, Texas A&M, Wisconsin, Boston College and others.
The 6-foot-0 and 180-pound Turner is a 3-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite. He is the country’s No. 380 overall prospect, the No. 34 cornerback and the No. 48 prospect in Florida.
Turner, who plays for a top Florida prep football program, has pretty good size for a cornerback, excellent speed and is very good in coverage.
The Buckeyes want to sign at least three class of 2022 cornerbacks and possibly four and now have three corner commitments. In addition to Turner, Ryan Day, defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs and Director of Player Personnel Mark Pantoni also have commitments from 5-star cornerback Jaheim Singletary also from Florida and high 4-star cornerback Jyaire Brown the No. 1 cornerback in Ohio.
Barnes and Day have been talking to Turner often in recent weeks as well as other Ohio State staffers.
