Michigan will again be without one of its key offensive weapons in Happy Valley today. The Michigan Insider has confirmed the ESPN College Gameday report that Blake Corum has been ruled out of the matchup with the Nittany Lions. The sophomore running back, who has rushed 130 times for 778 yards and 10 touchdowns, was seen limping off the field early in last week’s 29-7 victory over Indiana and did not return.

The news isn’t all bad for the Wolverines, though. Junior tight end Erick All, sophomore wideout AJ Henning, and freshman wideout Andrel Anthony, and freshman running back Donovan Edwards are all expected to play.

Edwards’ return is especially important in light of the Corum news. The former five-star standout has rushed 22 times for 139 yards and two touchdowns this season, but has missed the last two games with an undisclosed injury. His absence alongside Corum’s last week forced Hassan Haskins to shoulder the entire rushing load. He responded with a career-best 27-carry, 168-yard one-touchdown performance.

Haskins will be the bell-cow again today, but when healthy, Edwards has the skills to complement him in a fashion similar to Corum. And this is the kind of opportunity Michigan running backs coach Mike Hart said his star freshman has biding his time waiting for.

“He has great hands,” Hart said during Michigan’s bye week. “He definitely has great hands. He could play receiver if he wanted to. Donovan is a talented, talented kid.”

“He knows his chance is coming,” Hart added. “He prepares every day. He’s ready. He gets all the reps in practice. I have 100% confidence in Donovan Edwards to put him in the game when we need to put him in the game. “
