Everton caretaker boss Duncan Ferguson insists his decision to substitute Moise Kean after just 19 minutes against Manchester United was ‘nothing personal’.

The Toffees drew 1-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday as United salvaged a point with a 77th-minute Mason Greenwood equaliser, which cancelled out Victor Lindelof’s own goal.

Kean was brought on to replace Bernard in the 70th minute, but was hooked off for Oumar Niasse late on.

The 19-year-old, who is yet to score since joining in a £27.5million deal from Juventus in the summer, walked straight past Ferguson and down the tunnel.

Explaining his decision, Ferguson told Sky Sports: “Yeah, you know what, it wasn’t because of Moise Kean’s performance.

“I just needed to make a substitution to kill a bit of time. I’ve got so many strikers on the bench, I just decided to make that change.

“It was nothing personal to Moise Keane really.”
