Partick Thistle has been taken over by a EuroMillions winner who plans to gift the club to the fans.
Colin Weir purchased a majority shareholding in the Scottish Championship club as well as a holding in the land at the Firhill Stadium.
The 71-year-old will give the land back to the club immediately while he plans to give his shares to a fan group that is being developed no later than March 30, 2020.
Weir won £161million in 2011 and has already invested millions in the club.
He withdrew his support earlier this year due to uncertainties surrounding a takeover by a foreign consortium.
But he has now acquired a majority shareholding in the club.
“Thistle for Ever planted the thought of fan ownership as a real option in my mind,” said Weir in a statement.
“But this has all happened quicker than anyone might have anticipated. That’s why I have offered a three to four month window for fans to get everything in place before handing over shares.
“They want to get it right and I want to be sure that when the new entity is operational, there is a structure that will allow for a smooth transfer of ownership.
“This is a major financial commitment on my part as fan owners will not need to repay a penny – but I believe this gives fan ownership the best possible start.”
