Ferran Torres is close to joining Barcelona from Manchester City in a deal that could be worth more than £50 million (€60 million).
The Athletic understands that the two clubs are working to reach an agreement over an initial fee of around £46 million (€55 million) that could rise due to future add-ons.
Torres, 21, only moved to the Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2020 and has missed the past three months with a foot injury, but had already become frustrated with his playing opportunities.
Barcelona have informed the Spain international that he would be a central part of their rebuilding operation under new coach Xavi, and he is said to be enthused about the possibility.
Barca’s initial approach for Torres, towards the end of November, left City confused as they had been expecting attempts to sign Raheem Sterling, who had previously been the focus of interest from the Catalan club.
But they have switched their attentions to Torres and it is nearing a conclusion after City made it known that they would accommodate a sale as long as the player wanted it and Barca made a suitable offer.
