Lincoln Riley did it again.
Five-star quarterback Malachi Nelson, the No. 5 prospect in the 2023 class from Los Alamitos, Calif., on Sunday committed to Oklahoma, proving the Sooners coach and offensive mastermind can go coast to coast — literally — and bring elite quarterbacks to Norman.
Oklahoma becomes the only program with three five-star quarterback commits since the 2019 recruiting cycle, per the 247Sports Composite. But the level of quarterback Riley is recruiting goes beyond that; all three QBs were or are ranked as top-11 prospects nationally. Spencer Rattler, last year’s OU starter and a 2021 Heisman Trophy front-runner from Phoenix, ranked as the No. 11 prospect in the 2019 class. Caleb Williams, who signed with the Sooners out of Gonzaga College High in Washington, D.C.
