Jett Howard, a four-star prospect in the class of 2022, has committed to play for his father Juwan Howard at Michigan, he announced this afternoon.
A 6-foot-7 versatile wing by way of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Howard cut his list down to seven schools that included Florida, Georgetown, LSU, North Carolina State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Michigan. However, his ultimate decision came down to him picking the Wolverines men’s basketball program over the Volunteers of Tennessee.
“It was a tough decision because I was seriously looking at Tennessee,” says Howard. “But it was just the family atmosphere obviously because of my dad. I also feel I will have a good opportunity to play right away. I honestly like how everybody is treated the same around the campus. I paid attention to the little things when it came to this recruiting process and that stood out along with the culture and environment of the program.”
Having the opportunity to play for your father at the high major level is an opportunity that is very rare. Now that Howard has pledged to his father’s program, he looks forward to continuing to get better under the man who has played big a role in his development.
“Honestly, it will be great because we have always had a smooth relationship that is never forced,” says Howard. “Growing up, he was always on the road because of him being in the league, but when he would come home it was awesome. But since I have gotten older he has been there every step of the way. He helps me with different aspects of the game and always gives me tips on how to get better. As I continue to get older the stuff he has been saying has been starting to click. Honestly, it will be great because we have always had a smooth relationship that is never forced.”
The fourth member of Michigan’s 2022 recruiting class, Howard joins four-star point guard Dug McDaniel, four-star forward Gregg Glenn, and four-star big man Tarris Reed.
When asked what he plans on bringing to the program, Howard says, “I know that it is cliche to say but Michigan is honestly getting a winner who is a team player. I am a person who is not backing down from no competition and a person who is going to help contribute as soon he steps on campus.”
Howard is ranked the No. 37 overall prospect in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings.
