Hugo Lloris suffered a dislocated elbow during Tottenham’s defeat to Brighton on Saturday, the club have confirmed.
Spurs were thumped 3-0 at the Amex as their woeful week continued and got off to a horrific start as their captain sustained a serious injury after committing a howler that left them 1-0 down after just three minutes.
The Tottenham statement read: “We can confirm that Hugo Lloris sustained a dislocated elbow during today’s match against Brighton.
“Our club captain was stretchered off as a result of the injury and will now return to London this evening after being assessed at a local hospital.
“Assessment will continue this coming week to ascertain the full extent of the injury and the length of time he will require to undergo rehabilitation.”
While a dislocated elbow is still a serious issue that will keep Lloris out for a period, the blow could have been significantly worse.
Speaking to talkSPORT earlier in the day, manager Mauricio Pochettino feared things would be more serious and said: “The news after [the] game wasn’t good.
“Of course, it’s not good news. I think he has suffered a big issue.”
Paulo Gazzaniga is Spurs’ second choice and he replaced Lloris on Saturday.
