The Buckeyes have lost one of their top 2022 commitments as cornerback Jaheim Singletary from Jacksonville (Fla.) Lee has announced he has decommitted from Ohio State. Singletary had been committed to Ohio State since Jan. 2. Singletary posted the news on his Twitter account on Sunday evening.
The 6-foot-1 and 170-pound Singletary has a list of scholarship offers that in addition to Ohio State includes Georgia, Florida, Clemson, LSU, Auburn, Florida State, Miami, USC, Michigan, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Texas A&M and others.
There have long been rumors that Singletary could decommit, but when he made his official visit with the Buckeyes the weekend of June 25-27 things seemed to cool a bit on that front. But nonetheless, Singletary is no longer committed to the Buckeyes.
However, Singletary visited Georgia and then visited Miami over this weekend.
On the bright side of things for the Buckeyes, Ohio State co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach Kerry Coombs, secondary coach Matt Barnes and head coach Ryan Day have an outstanding group of defensive back commitments even without Singletary.
The Buckeyes still have four defensive back commitments led 4-star cornerback Terrance Brooks from Texas, another 4-star cornerback in the No. 3 prospect in Ohio in Jyaire Brown, cornerback Ryan Turner and safety Kye Stokes both from the state of Florida. The Buckeyes have a 2022 recruiting class that is ranked as the country’s No. 1 recruiting class in the 247Sports Composite team recruiting rankings.

Singletary is an outstanding cornerback talent that has a great future ahead of him. But Brooks and Brown do as well and those two along with Turner give Coombs a trio that could eventually be the two potential NFL first round draft choices down the road that Coombs aims for in each recruiting class.
The Buckeyes also have commitments from a talented safety from Florida in Stokes who seems likely to get his first shot at safety at Ohio State, but also could play nickel or cornerback.
The Buckeyes could perhaps replace Singletary in the class with another corner. Domani Jackson would be a great addition if the Ohio State staff could pull that off. But with Brooks, Brown and Turner in the class another cornerback is not a necessity. Adding at least one more safety is a more important priority. Landing elite safety Zion Branch or the other elite safety they hosted on an official visit in June Xavier Nwankpa is more important than adding another cornerback. And if the Buckeyes could add both Branch and Nwankpa that would be even better.
